Bonaire’s sea abounds with breathtaking marine life and a unique variety of colorful tropical fish. The sea is remarkably calm, making conditions ideal for both scuba diving and snorkeling.
To help keep our reef environment healthy for many years to come, we encourage all divers and snorkelers to familiarize themselves with the Marine Park Regulations prior to their visit.
The Bonaire National Marine Park was established in 1979. The Park starts at the high water mark and extends to 200 ft (60 meters) of depth, covering an area of 6,672 acres, or 27 km².
Water Sports
With its vibrant coral reef, 80 official dive sites, calm waters and clear visibility, there’s something for everyone on Bonaire. Our custom tours invite you to explore the island’s beautiful marine life during your stay, or explore Bonaire’s underwater world at your own pace.
On average, Bonaire’s visibility exceeds 100 feet (30 meters) and our average water temperature is 80° F (29° C). The island is world renowned for its ease of shore diving, as reefs are a short 30-feet (10-meter) swim or less from shore.
Novice divers will appreciate the calm waters and minimal currents that make it an ideal location to improve buoyancy skills! In addition, the abundance of marine life living along the shallow drop-off area of the reef slope allows for maximum bottom time, while giving new divers a chance to become comfortable and develop their skills.

Bonaire has been recognized as one of the best places in the world to windsurf for novice through professional levels. Additionally, Bonaire’s champions continue to rank high in world competitions.

You don’t have to dive to enjoy the underwater world of Bonaire! Snorkeling allows visitors to get a broad view of the coral reef with its many inhabitants. In a few meters of depth, chances are you can spot turtles, rays or even a seahorse.
Just like the dive sites, many of Bonaire’s snorkel sites are marked by yellow stones. You will see them on the roadside along the coastline. Each name carries the name of the particular snorkel site and marks a convenient entry point.
All users of Bonairean waters are required to purchase a nature tag. The cost is $25 for divers and $10 for all others. Participation will help in the preservation and protection of the Bonaire National Marine Park.
